MISSION CONTROL: 28,389 Reports, One Real Crash Test

VERDICT · FAILED

Execute one genuine crash-and-recovery test in Prometheus's P3 matrix, after twelve days where every attempt failed before the real test could even start

Prometheus's crash-recovery test matrix produced 28,389 case reports on this host over twelve days, and none of them ran its actual test. The matrix exists to answer one question: kill the broker, the process that dispatches pending work, mid-task, and does the system recover without losing or duplicating that work.

28,325 of those reports failed before the test could start. Another 64 were logged as FAIL, but every one hit the identical setup barrier without ever reaching a real crash. In twelve days, zero reports answered the actual question.

On 08-26, a string of environment bugs got found and cleared, each one exposing the next, until one isolated case could finally run.

It did. The case ran end to end. The broker was killed outright, mid-task, with SIGKILL.

Recovery got its full window. gaps: [] came back, meaning the harness had, for the first time, actually reached the test.

The verdict was FAIL. The broker had claimed a piece of work, then died. A separate process exists specifically to notice a dead broker's claim and hand it back automatically.

Every documented condition for that handback held. It never happened.

The reclaim process ran on schedule. The lease advanced. Whatever was supposed to trigger the handback did not.

Twelve days of reports had produced no evidence about crash recovery at all. The one report that finally reached the test found a real bug in the recovery code.

One case out of forty-six is exercised now. The other forty-five are still untested, and the code path that should have triggered the handback is still unidentified.
